Workplace risk assessment

All workplace Health & Safety procedures should be established against the findings of an initial Risk Assessment. The continuing effectiveness of the procedures should then be assessed periodically by review and reappraisal of this initial Assessment.

Whilst risk levels (and the source of these risks) vary widely, there are very few workplace situations where a risk assessment is not required, and Ashdale Engineering have a broad experience in undertaking this work in situations ranging from commercial kitchens to oil refineries.

Examples of recent projects include:

Workshop risk assessment

Industrial workshops, garages, colleges etc - with considerations including machine tool safety, welding procedures, equipment usage control, suitability of written schemes drawn up under the Pressure System Safety regulations, appropriate lifting procedures under LOLER, electrical safety, ventilation and lighting requirements.

Major LPG Installations

Sites with major LPG storage installations, including sites coming under the COMAH regulations – with considerations including security and safety precautions for tank compounds, tank refilling procedures, tank and distribution pipework condition and maintenance regimes, periodic inspection requirements under the Pressure System Safety regs, operational management, safety at the points of use, and the application of COMAH regulations where applicable.

Industrial kitchens

Kitchens from those catering for 20 mid-day snacks on a fast-food basis to those catering for several hundred residents on a 24/7 basis – with considerations including machinery and equipment safety, kitchen layout and building fabric issues, food handling and storage, cold room safety, staff training, fire escape routes and other fire precautions, the application of COSHH procedures, gas and electrical safety, lighting and ventilation, and water quality.
